Recipe - Bachelor's Feast

Sun Nov 22 11:37:33 2009

Tasty dinner that doesn't require a lot of effort or fancy ingredients.

If you're someone like me who likes to eat meat and is sometimes too lazy to cook anything "decent", this recipe will be perfect for you.

The meal I'm going to cook is definitely not to be called "healthy". However, this food totally heats the spot after a long and stressful day.

Ingredients

My "discovery" of this meal was made with just chicken "drumsticks" (legs), bread and spice... and it was delicious. In this version, I'll be a bit more creative and will add more stuff, but feel free to omit any ingredient(s), but meat of course!

  • Your favorite meat - I used chicken legs.
  • Your favorite bread - pre-sliced or cut into about 0.5" pieces.
  • 2-3 eggs
  • 1 large onion - the true bachelor way is to use those dried chopped onion packets available in stores.
  • 4 small potatoes chopped in small pieces.
  • Salt and spice to taste.

Preparation

Meat, onion and spice boiling

We're going to boil our meat. I would recommend using a frying pan, as then we can brown up whatever non-meaty ingredients you've chosen to keep. I usually let the water evaporate completely, and fry the meat for a couple of minutes, then refill the water.

Potatoes that were just added

Chop the onion "to taste", I chose to use the lazy method, and choped it in fairly large pieces. Add the onion, salt and spice to the meat and boil it until ready. About 10 minutes before the meat is cooked, add chopped potatoes.

This time I added eggs when I still had a lot of water in the stew, however, I recommend that you wait until the very end to add the eggs as they will taste much better and will be less spread around the entire mix.

Chicken separated from the "stew"

My favorite meat is chicken, and since it has bones, I usually take it out of the "stew" when it's done and finish the stew without the chicken in it. If your meat is boneless, I'd recommend you leave it in for the final touches.

Bread added to the stew

The final touch to our dinner is adding bread. The idea is to have enough bread for it to absorb all the remaining liquid in our stew and no more than that. After you add the bread is when you'd normally add the eggs and fry the entire mix until the eggs are ready. I put my eggs in way in advance, and as can be seen from the photo, they look rather scattered.

Final Product

Add our "stew" mix to the meat and serve. Add ketchup, mayonnaise or chopped green onion to taste. Viola, delicious meal with almost zero presence in the kitchen:
